![]() 1955 District 29-AA Football Champions Eagle Pass Eagles 1955 Team & Coach(s) Recognition EPAC Stadium – Friday, October 15, 2010 50 Yard Line -Prior to Kickoff – Eagles versus Del Rio Rams In early July of 1955, some 50 anxious to be Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and a few Freshmen received a letter from their newly hired Varsity Football Head Coach, a gentleman by the name of Cozel Foster. Needless to say, the letter was short and to the point. “Come prepared to work like you have never worked before. We plan to win the District Championship.” Who was this coach, who was so confident to make such a statement? The answer came just before the Thanksgiving Holidays when the 1955 District 29-AA Championship Trophy was presented to 23 players, two managers and four coaches representing the Eagle Pass High School Eagles. On October 15th, 2010 eleven players, two coaches and two managers from this team will be recognized on the field just prior to the opening Kickoff of the Del Rio game. In addition, 7 players and two coaches will be remembered in Honorarium and 5 players who could not attend will have their names called out. Many opposing coaches have said that 1955 was the year that changed the way opposing teams coaches began preparing to play the Eagle Pass Eagles. Cozel Foster and his coaching staff and 23 players started a tradition that still lives today in every team that represents the Eagles on the field of play and in this new stadium we can all be proud of . Eagle Pass began playing football in 1908 and for 47 years the Eagles had only won one district Championship until the year Cozel Foster and the Eagles changed all that. Beginning in 1955, Eagle Football has won 16 district titles, advanced to regional eight times and the quarterfinals four times. This tradition continues and lives in this year's 2010 Eagle Team playing against the Del Rio Rams right after the presentation of this team on October 15th. . Eagle Pass supporters are urged to come and celebrate what these players and coaches have contributed not only to the Eagles but to the Mavericks as well. Tradition must be earned and this team and this coach, Cozel Foster , who has chosen to make Eagle Pass his home, began a tradition all of Eagle Pass can be proud of.
