My name is Tom Schmerber and I was born
in Eagle Pass, Texas to Mr.
Santiago Schmerber Jr. and Martina Garay Schmerber. I am married
to Blanca Medrano Schmerber and have one daughter Bianca Nicole,
currently a student in High School. I am a life-long
resident of Eagle
Pass, Texas.
I graduated from Texas State University, earning a Political Science
degree. I also received a Masters Degree
in Education from Sul Ross
State University and was employed by the Eagle Pass Independent School
District from 1974 to 1982 as an educator. I am a 1971 graduate of
Eagle Pass High School.
During my professional
career of 26 years in law enforcement, I was
employed by the United States Border Patrol, the Department of
Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Department of Homeland
Security.
I have dedicated most of my professional career to law enforcement,
serving as a law
instructor twice at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in
Glynco Georgia and also as a Field Operation Supervisor, also know as
Watch Commander, at our local station in Eagle Pass, Texas. My duties
as a Field Operation Supervisor and instructor afforded me the
experience and opportunity to enhance and strengthen my administrative
capabilities.
Following my retirement, I returned to the school district where I am
currently employed at the C.C. Winn High School.
One of the reasons that convinced me to seek the position of County
Sheriff was the growing need for more public safety for the citizens,
children and elderly of our community.
As County Sheriff I would assure our citizens that I would focus my
attention on the duties and responsibilities of County Sheriff.
Equally important will be the implementation of intensive staff
training in order to be ready and better prepared for all eventualities.
As County Sheriff I will make sure that the laws of the State of Texas
are enforced equally and fairly. My administration will favor no
one
and will operate with complete transparency.
As County Sheriff, I will work to strength and improve necessary
coordination with all municipal, state and federal law enforcement
entities.
As County Sheriff, I will assure total accountability of departmental
funds, budgets and asset forfeiture distributions.
I offer to protect and serve the community and to battle against crime
while maintaining order in our county.
I am open to discuss any of your concerns relating to the Maverick
County Sheriff’s Department and /or Administration and our community's
public safety.
So, be assured that I will make safety and security our priority.
If elected, I offer my personal integrity, professionalism, and a
strong desire to improve the efficiency within the Sheriff
Department.
The time for change is now!
